Brand · Guidelines · v1.0

The Trustvice brand, on the record.

A single source of truth for the Trustvice identity: how the wordmark is drawn and where it isn't allowed to go, what each colour means, which typefaces carry which jobs, how Spot is used, how the products are named in copy, and how we ask the world to write about us.

These guidelines are written for partners, press, customers publishing case studies, conference organisers, and our own future selves on a tired Friday afternoon. Read them once. Reference them often.

Section 01

Brand essence.

Trustvice builds AI Actors — detached, role-performing companions that run alongside production AI agents. The Actor watches; it cannot intervene. That structural constraint is the product. The artefact it produces — the record — is what auditors, regulators, courts, and serious users recognise as admissible.

The brand expresses this with three things, repeated everywhere:

  1. i.Document, not dashboard. The visual language reads as a printed record: editorial serif headlines, narrow measure, hairline rules, generous white space, monospace for identifiers.
  2. ii.Surgical orange. A single high-saturation colour, applied to a tiny percentage of pixels at any time. The orange is a verdict, not a wash.
  3. iii.Author's voice. Declarative prose. Constraints proudly stated. The product's limits are part of the product, not the fine print.

Tagline

Trust for Agents. On the record.

Use as a closing line, a footer line, or as a stand-alone headline on transitional surfaces. Always italic, always in the display serif, sentence-cased on both clauses. Never in body sans.

Section 03

Spot, the mascot.

Spot is the watching eye who personifies the v1.spot Actor. Spot is not the company. Spot is not the product. Spot is the metaphor — the figure who watches without intervening and writes down what happened. Use Spot sparingly: in hero areas, in empty-state illustrations, in changelog announcements. Personality carries weight precisely because we don't spend it everywhere.

v1.spot

v1.spot

v1.spot

On Ink · footer, hero

Spot is one shape, in one set of relationships.

The eye proportions, the iris position, and the cast of the gaze are all fixed. Do not redraw Spot in your own style. Do not flip, mirror, or rotate. Do not animate the iris darting around — Spot watches, calmly. The only sanctioned motion is the slow pulse used in our hero illustrations.

Spot has no facial expressions.

Don't draw Spot smiling, frowning, winking, or sleeping. Don't add eyebrows, ears, hands, a body, accessories, or seasonal costumes. Spot's job is to attend, not to entertain. We will never produce a Spot-as-Santa illustration; please don't produce one for us either.

Section 04

Colour.

The palette is small on purpose. Three primaries — Trustvice Orange (the surgical brand accent), Paper (the off-white surface), and Paper 2 (the gray panel) — plus Ink for dark canvases, three semantic colours (Evidence, Warning, Danger), and a short list of neutral greys. Anything outside this list is not Trustvice.

The Trustvice Orange is reserved for moments of contrast, never as a background fill. On any given screen, it should occupy less than five percent of the pixels. If a layout needs more Trustvice Orange to feel correct, the layout is wrong, not the rule.

Every token below is authored in OKLCH— the perceptually-uniform colour space standardised in CSS Color Level 4. Equal lightness values look equally bright across hues; equal chroma values look equally saturated. That makes derived shades, dark-mode inversions, and contrast-driven accessibility math correct by construction. The sRGB hex equivalent is shown alongside each token for designers reading from external references; the OKLCH value is the canonical truth and what the codebase ships.

Contrast

WCAG AA, minimum.

Body text against any approved background passes WCAG AA (4.5:1) by construction. Display text passes AA Large (3:1). Never approach these thresholds for decoration alone.

Pairings

Paper or Ink. Pick one.

Every Trustvice surface is either a light document or a dark section. No half-tones, no warm-grey backgrounds, no gradients across the canvas.

Forbidden combinations

Trustvice Orange on Evidence. Trustvice Orange on Danger.

Semantic colours never overlap with brand colour. Trustvice Orange next to crimson reads as a fire alarm; Trustvice Orange next to green reads as Halloween. Neither is on-brand.

Section 05

Typography.

Three families, each carrying a specific job. The display serif is the voice; the body sans is the speech; the monospace is the evidence. Mixing them outside their roles is the most common way a Trustvice layout goes wrong.

The display serif is served through our Adobe Typekit project at use.typekit.net; the body sans and monospace are self-hosted and preloaded through next/font, which subsets and self-hosts them. Display licences are held centrally; external partners producing material for or about Trustvice may request loaner access via the brand team.

Background

IvyPresto is part of the broader Ivy family designed by Jan Maack and Cindy Kinash for Cultivated Mind. Where many contemporary serifs lean utility, IvyPresto leans toward fashion-magazine and editorial-frontispiece use — high contrast, generous proportions, calligraphic italics — without sliding into pastiche. The Display cut is drawn specifically for large sizes, where its hairlines and ball terminals have room to perform. We use IvyPresto at weight 300 (Light) so headlines read precise rather than declamatory. One global CSS variable controls the display weight across the entire site, which is how we keep the typography from drifting as new pages are added.

Trustvice Sans is the Trustvice typeface — an open-source font under the SIL Open Font License 1.1, a fork of Inter by Rasmus Andersson. A tall x-height, wide apertures, and carefully tuned letterforms keep interface text legible from captions to dense tables, without the mechanical coldness that makes some UI sans tiring to read. It pairs cleanly with an editorial serif, which is precisely the contrast Trustvice wants: serif headlines, technical body. The complete family lives at github.com/trustvice/fonts and ships as a self-hosted variable font.

Background

Trustvice Code is the Trustvice monospace typeface — an open-source font under the SIL Open Font License 1.1, based on JetBrains Mono by Philipp Nurullin and Konstantin Bulenkov. A true monospace built for reading code for hours: every glyph on the same advance width, an unusually tall x-height tuned for small sizes, and 138 coding ligatures (=>, ->, !=, ===) that resolve operator pairs into single readable marks. We use it for identifiers, hashes, timestamps, file paths, and the tracked-uppercase kickers that label every section. A no-ligature cut, Trustvice Code NL, ships for environments that need plain glyphs. The complete family lives at github.com/trustvice/fonts and ships as a self-hosted variable font, scaled with a 96.8% size-adjust to hold the site's established monospace size exactly.

Section 06

Product naming.

Product names are an evolved part of the wordmark. They render in the body sans by default, with a single Trustvice Orange-coloured period between the version and the suffix. Capitalisation is fixed.

  • v0.spot · v1.spot · v2.spot
  • v1.spot Witness · Council · Historian · Conscience · Custodian
  • Number One
  • Spot (the mascot)
  • OpenClaw (open-source plugin)

Incorrect

  • TrustVice, trustvice, TRUSTVICE
  • V1.Spot, v1-spot, v1_spot, v1.SPOT
  • Trustvice Witness (the surfaces are part of v1.spot, not the company)
  • NumberOne, #1, No.1
  • spot, Spot the Watcher, Trustvice Spot
  • Open Claw, OpenPaw, openclaw

Section 07

Voice & tone.

The Trustvice voice is the voice of a single attentive author who has read the relevant law, the relevant standard, and the relevant log file — and is now reporting plainly to a serious reader. Declarative, specific, dry, and a little dryly funny. Marketing-team voice — the awards-podium kind — is the failure mode to watch for.

01.

Do

Declare. State facts without hedging.

Don't

Hedge with "we believe," "we think," "in our view."

Example

Trustvice records what happened. — not — We think Trustvice can probably help you record what happened.

02.

Do

Lead with novelty. The new thing first.

Don't

Pad with context the reader doesn't need yet.

Example

Five surfaces. One Actor. — not — As you may know, observability has been around for many years…

03.

Do

Specifics over adjectives. Numbers, names, mechanisms.

Don't

Generic intensifiers ("powerful," "robust," "world-class").

Example

Hash-chained, append-only by SQLite trigger. — not — Industry-leading data integrity.

04.

Do

Constraints proudly. Say what the product won't do.

Don't

Imply the product does more than it does.

Example

Number One does not interpret compliance. — not — Number One understands your compliance needs.

05.

Do

Author voice in long form. Italic display serif for emphasis.

Don't

Marketing-team voice. Awards-podium adjectives.

Example

"Trust for Agents. On the record." — italic, IvyPresto Display, weight 300.

Section 08

Imagery.

Trustvice avoids the visual clichés of the AI category — no glowing robot heads, no neural-network blobs, no astronauts, no holographic UIs floating over a CEO's palm. The look is editorial: documentary photography, hand-set type, technical diagrams, and screenshots of our own product taken in the product's own visual language.

Documentary photography.

Black-and-white or muted colour. Real settings — courtrooms, server rooms, archives, lawyers' offices. Subjects looking past the camera, not at it.

Technical diagrams.

Line work, no fills. Annotated in monospace. The diagram itself is a record — it should look like something an engineer drew on graph paper, not something a stock-image library exported.

Product screenshots.

Always at native resolution. Always inside a hairline border. Always with the actual product chrome — never composited into a phantom laptop on a marble desk.

Section 09

Trademark usage.

Trustvice and the product names use the small TM superscript to mark the names as ours. The TM is a public-facing claim of ownership and use — please honour it by reproducing the names accurately and by attributing them to Trustvice when the context requires.

Names marked with TM

  • TrustviceTM
  • v0.spotTM · v1.spotTM · v2.spotTM
  • Number OneTM
  • SpotTM— the mascot character
  • “Trust for Agents. On the record.”TM— tagline

In running prose, the TM superscript only needs to appear on the first prominent mention in a given document. After that, you can write the name plain. In artwork, follow the supplied lockups exactly.

Attribution language

When you reference the names in a place where attribution belongs — a paper, a press release, a partner page, a contract recital — please use this language verbatim:

Trustvice, v0.spot, v1.spot, v2.spot, Number One, Spot, and “Trust for Agents. On the record.” are trademarks of 99industries, LLC. Used with permission.

Please do not modify the TM symbol, append other status indicators, or imply a relationship with Trustvice beyond what has been agreed in writing. We're a small team and we're friendly — write to us before you wonder.

Press & partner usage

You don't need our permission to write about us.

Journalists, analysts, researchers, and customers may use the Trustvice name and logo in editorial, analytical, and review contexts without prior approval, subject to these guidelines. Commercial use — including any implication of endorsement, partnership, or integration — requires written agreement. When in doubt, ask. We answer fast.

Section 10

Downloads.

The brand kit contains the wordmark and the Spot mark in the formats you'll actually need: SVG for vector work, AVIF and PNG for the web, and PDF for print. The kit is a single zip; if you need a one-off format we haven't included, the brand team can supply it.

Section 11

The brand team reads every message and answers within two business days. Bring us your edge cases, your unusual placements, your "is this OK?" before you go to print. We'd rather hear from you early than see the result later.
